Fantastic 14: San Beda Thwarts Lyceum
The Red Lions now share the top spot with Jose Rizal University with similar 2-0 win-loss cards.
A San Beda-dominated game from the get-go, the Red Lions ended the first two quarters in their favor, 41-29.
Behind the combined efforts of Baser Amer and Jake Pascual in the third, the Red Lions enjoyed a nineteen point spread, 56-37 midway.
An already won game entering the fourth, the Red Lions still muscled their way to increase their lead to its widest at 25, 71-46. San Beda held on to the driver’s seat until the final buzzer.
Leading scorer Baser Amer anchored that stretch where he scored eight straight points.
“It’s an even tournament,” said coach Ronnie Magsanoc, who won his second straight game at the helm of San Beda.
“Everybody was eager to play and contribute. Everybody sacrificed today because we have to play everyone.”
Art Dela Cruz, one of the “Super Six” along with Jun Bonsubre, Francis Abarcar, Dave Moralde, Yvan Ludovice and Ritchie Villaruz, finished with a double-double of 11 points and thirteen boards.
With the loss, the Pirates now share the cellar with Arellano at 0-3.
