San Beda Aims For Another Win, Faces Archrival
Defending champion San Beda aims to extend its winning streak against archrival Letran to 13 when they clash today in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Gametime is at 6 p.m. with the Red Lions eyeing the solo lead. They are currently tied for the lead with the University of Perpetual Help Altas at 4-1 after the latter scored an 84-64 win over College of St. Benilde, 84-64, last Thursday.
In the other seniors game, Mapua and Arellano University, both toting 2-3 cards, part ways at 4 p.m.
Despite their winning record, San Beda coach Ronnie Magsanoc remains wary of Letran, which snapped its three-game skid last Monday with a 66-60 triumph over Mapua that put them to a 2-3 slate.
“(Letran) coach Louie Alas will do everything to further boost the morale of his boys at this point after their win. Hopefully, we can match their energy,” said Magsanoc after their 81-65 rout over Emilio Aguinaldo College two days back.
Magsanoc is happy to have Ola Adeogun back in rotation after the Nigerian center finished serving his four-game suspension.
But the Knights’ desire to snap their losing streak to the Red Lions since Aug. 31, 2007 is just too hard to ignore.
Even Adeogun knows the capability of their foes.
“They’re a really good team and we have to be ready for them. I just have to stay calm and play my game,” said Adeogun, who had nine points, 14 boards and four blocks in his debut game this season against EAC.
Alas and his stalwarts said they’re all battle ready.
“We have to come out really hard against San Beda. Ang pinag-uusapan na dito, yung willingness to compete ng mga bata,” said Alas.
