Red Lions Battles JRU
Three-peat seeking San Beda tries to move closer from earning a playoff berth in the Final Four when it battles dangerous Jose Rizal University squad on Saturday in the 88th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
A win for the Red Lions, who carry a 10-2 record, will put them in a strong contention of clinching the first semis seat aside from putting more distance between them and second-running San Sebastian (10-3).
The 6 p.m. tussle between the Mendiola-based squad and the Heavy Bombers are expected to be close since both teams boast of players who can add excitement to the match.
JRU is currently tied for third to fourth places with University of Perpetual Help with identical 8-4 records and a victory for coach Vergel Meneses’ boys will inch them closer to the Stags.
Aside from keeping their solo lead, San Beda, meanwhile, also hopes to reaffirm its mastery over JRU, which it trounced, 62-37, in their first meeting last Aug. 4.
In that game, the Bombers were held to only 15 points in the first half to finish with the league’s lowest score of the season.
